Job Description
- A Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Technician is a vital member of the surgical team, providing technical support and assistance during cardiac and vascular surgeries.
- They play a critical role in preparing the operating room, surgical equipment, and instrumentation, ensuring a smooth and efficient surgical experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating Room Preparation:
- Set up and prepare the operating room for CTVS procedures, including assembling surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Ensure all necessary equipment and instruments are sterilized and in working order.
- Assist in positioning the patient and preparing the surgical site.
- Surgical Assistance:
- Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures.
- Maintain a sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist as directed.
- Equipment Management:
- Operate and maintain surgical equipment, such as suction devices, electrocautery units, and surgical lights.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Patient Care Support:
- Assist in transferring patients to and from the operating room.
- Monitor patient vital signs and assist with anesthesia induction and emergence.
- Provide post-operative care and transport patients to recovery areas.
- Documentation and Communication:
- Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient information.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Education Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a surgical technology program or relevant training preferred.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) may be required.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
