About the company Our client is an early-stage technology company. The role Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Take the senior technical leadership seat, owning machine learning engineering and the data platform that supports research work. The role starts hands-on with pipelines and modeling, then grows into hiring and leading an engineering group. What you'll do - Set technical direction for machine learning engineering and the underlying data systems. - Build high-throughput, standardized pipelines that turn unstructured lab data from many sources into structured form. - Compare model results with and without the additional data to show measurable performance gains. - Run the full discovery pipeline to surface novel, commercially relevant results. - Hire, onboard and lead engineers as the company grows. - Develop backend infrastructure that lets other leaders focus on science and application work. Requirements What we're looking for - Hands-on experience building, training and deploying machine learning models in the materials science domain. - Proven ability to take a model from raw data through to validated, measurable improvement on your own. - Strong data infrastructure and pipeline engineering skills, beyond pure research. - Fluency with modern frontier models rather than older approaches. - Leadership experience hiring and guiding engineers while still contributing directly. - Later-career profile with real industry experience and strong academic or research-lab credentials. - High-ownership, fast-moving builder comfortable in an early-stage startup. - Supportive, collaborative team player with a good sense of humor and balance outside work. - Roughly 4 to 10 years of experience. Bonus points - A strong professional network in the field to draw candidates from. - Commercial creativity and curiosity beyond the purely technical domain.
