About the job
ROLE PURPOSE Metal runs through every Morcom product — CRCA and pre-coated sheet for chassis and OTG bodies, stainless steel for kettle bodies and cooktop parts, aluminium for heat sinks and plates, copper and aluminium winding wire for induction coils, tubular heating elements, fasteners, springs, pressed and fabricated parts, and surface treatments such as plating and powder coating. The Purchase Executive – Metals buys all of it to the right grade and gauge, at a rate that tracks the metal market, and runs the job-work vendors who press, cut, bend, plate and coat our parts — so that production gets correct material on time and Morcom never pays for weight, grade or scrap it did not receive. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Raw Metals — Grade, Form & Specification Steel: Buy CRCA, HR, GI / GP and pre-coated sheet and coil to the correct grade, thickness, width and surface finish, with tolerances written on the PO. Stainless steel: Buy SS 304 / 202 / 430 and other grades as specified — knowing where food-contact 304 is mandatory, where magnetic 430 is needed for induction, and how to catch a grade substitution at receipt. Aluminium & copper: Buy aluminium sheet, extrusions and die-cast parts, and copper / aluminium winding wire and busbar, to grade and temper. Mill test certificates: Insist on a mill test certificate for every lot; coordinate thickness, grade and weight checks with IQC; reject untraceable material. Sources: Develop a base of mills, authorised distributors and service centres; know when to buy coil and get it slit or cut versus buying cut sheets. 2. Metal Parts, Fasteners & Bought-Out Items Pressed & fabricated parts: Source sheet-metal parts — laser / turret cut, pressed, bent, welded — with first-article approval and a drawing-controlled specification. Heating elements & wire: Source tubular heating elements, element wire and coil-winding wire to specification with Engineering. Fasteners & springs: Buy screws, nuts, washers, rivets and springs by standard, material and plating; cut variety through standardisation. Die-casting & machined parts: Manage die-casting and machining vendors, including tool / die ownership. 3. Job-Work, Surface Treatment & Tooling Job-work control: Send material to press, laser, bending, plating and powder-coating job workers against proper challans; reconcile material out versus parts and scrap returned; complete job-work GST documentation. Surface treatment: Buy zinc / nickel / chrome plating, passivation and powder coating to specification (thickness, salt-spray, RoHS). Tools & dies: Maintain the register of Morcom-owned dies and tools at vendors — condition, strokes / life and return on demand. 4. Costing, Price Tracking & Scrap Weight-based costing: Cost every metal part from blank weight (length × width × thickness × density) × metal rate + conversion − scrap credit; negotiate from that should-cost. Market tracking: Track steel, stainless, aluminium and copper price movements (mill price lists, LME / MCX references) and time purchases and rate revisions accordingly; agree price-variation clauses where needed. Scrap: Maximise the value of metal scrap (copper, aluminium, stainless, MS) by grade segregation and competitive sale, with weighment controls at the gate. 5. Ordering, Follow-up & MIS Procure-to-pay: Raise POs in the ERP against approved requisitions with grade, gauge, tolerance, GST / HSN and approved rate; follow up daily; clear GRN, QC and invoice mismatches. Stock planning: Plan metal stock against the production plan and lead times without locking up working capital. MIS: Monthly metals MIS — grade-wise spend and rate trend versus market, savings, job-work reconciliation, scrap realisation and vendor rating. CANDIDATE PROFILE Must-Have Metal knowledge: Knows the common grades of steel, stainless steel, aluminium and copper, their forms and where each is used — and how to verify grade at receipt. Costing: Can calculate sheet and part weight from dimensions and density, and a
