Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together.

The Audit Bureau conducts informative and meaningful audits, independent assessments, and objective reviews to examine and report on City operations and services. The Bureau strives to improve the City’s financial position, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure that services are provided efficiently, effectively and equitably. By reporting our findings to City officials, oversight bodies and the public, we increase transparency and accountability, promote integrity, and strengthen public trust.

The selected candidate will work closely with audit management and professional staff to assist in framing analytical questions, reviewing studies and research exercises, assessing supporting evidence, and identifying significant trends and systemic issues. The Director will play a key role in strengthening the quality, clarity, and effectiveness of audit or investigative work products and ensuring that complex findings are appropriately developed and presented to senior leadership

Under the direction of the Deputy Comptroller for Audit, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct and coordinate research on agency operations, government programs, policies, performance measures, and other matters relevant to ongoing or proposed audits.
  • Assist in the high-level framing and presentation of supporting audit data and research to ensure that complex issues are clearly in objectives and scope.
  • Work collaboratively with audit management to identify opportunities for additional research, comparative analysis, and evaluation of agency practices.
  • Prepare and review executive summaries, research memoranda, analytical briefs, and other materials for consideration by the Deputy Comptroller and Bureau leadership.
  • Participate in meetings with audit teams and senior management to discuss analytical issues, research findings, and the development of significant audit conclusions.
  • Undertake special research projects, analytical reviews, and other assignments as directed.
