The position sits at the intersection of hands-on Java development, cloud-native architecture, and large-scale distributed systems supporting real-time message flows from global futures markets while contributing to the replacement of legacy product processors. The ideal candidate will bring deep enterprise engineering expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated commitment to AI-assisted software development practices. This role offers a compelling opportunity to help shape the future of a mission-critical capital markets platform at one of the world's leading global financial institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native applications, APIs, and services aligned with Citi's architecture and engineering standards.
  • Perform hands-on Java-based development and provide L3 production support for the core ETD Clearing platform, including real-time message flows from global futures markets.
  • Contribute to platform transformation efforts, including the replacement of legacy product processors and the adoption of modern cloud, containerization, and distributed systems technologies.
  • Leverage and promote the adoption of AI-assisted software engineering tools to accelerate development cycles, automate processes, and improve troubleshooting efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain CI/CD, DevOps, and observability practices to enhance platform stability, reliability, and time-to-market.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across global regions including Pune, India and with ETD technology teams to coordinate release planning and delivery.
  • Collaborate with and support junior and mid-level engineers by sharing technical knowledge, contributing to best practices, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration across engineering, QA, product, and business teams to deliver high-quality, reusable enterprise capabilities.
  • Identify and address technical risk, application health, and regulatory compliance requirements in alignment with Citi's standards for client and asset protection.
  • Drive engineering excellence through automation, testability, reusability, and operational rigor across the full software development lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience delivering enterprise-scale applications in complex, global environments.
  • Deep expertise in Java-based application development, including Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and distributed systems design.
  • Hands-on experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka, IBM MQ, or Solace in high-throughput, low-latency environments.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating cloud-native applications on container platforms such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Strong understanding of API design, application security, and authentication and authorization frameworks, with a commitment to secure software development practices.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability tooling, and performance monitoring using technologies such as Git, Maven/Gradle, OpenTelemetry, and Grafana.
  • Experience with caching and performance optimization technologies such as Redis or Couchbase.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-assisted software engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Devin to improve developer productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity.
  • Proven track record working in Agile environments and contributing to complex technical initiatives across globally distributed teams.
  • Experience within financial services, preferably supporting Trade Processing, Clearing, Middle Office, or related capital markets platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results under tight timelines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across business and technology organizations.
  • Experience with Spring Cloud and cloud-native Java technologies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and high-volume, low-latency systems within capital markets is preferred.
