DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS : The work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of a van or car in transporting passengers on an assigned route. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining the vehicle in a clean and safe condition. The work is performed under the supervision of a higher-ranking departmental employee in accordance with established policies and procedures. The incumbent does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES :
- Operates a van or car in transporting passengers on a regular schedule;
- Provides physical assistance when needed as participants board and disembark;
- Ensures all passengers wear safety belts and that wheelchairs are locked into position;
- Keeps records regarding vehicle operation including a daily mileage log;
- Instructs passengers about safety practices when entering and leaving van;
- Checks oil, tires, mileage and gasoline;
- Washes and cleans interior and exterior of vehicle and suggests needed repairs;
- Inspects vehicle to ensure that it is in safe operating condition;
- Forwards any donations to Adult Day Care Coordinator or Adult Day Care Assistant;
- Replaces items as needed or outdated in first aid kit;
- Ensures emergency medical information is available for those participants being transported from Adult Day Care.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS :
Good knowledge of the geography of the area, and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a van or car under all driving and road conditions; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine manual tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Possession of a current valid New York State operator’s license appropriate for the vehicle operated Pay Range $17.37 — $19.74 USD
