About the job
Role Summary
This Director on the US Market Access (USMA) Market Access Execution (MAX) Pricing & Insights team serves in three connected capacities: (1) business lead for USMA’s market access analytic ecosystem, (2) enterprise lead for curated payer coverage data, and (3) key business liaison from our function to central and strategic data functions across the Commercial organization.
As the business lead for the analytic ecosystem, this role leads the day-to-day business management of USMA’s strategic market access data assets and of the pre-/post-deal analytics and Contract Decision Support platform (e.g., the “CDS/Denali” capability), translating the vision and priorities set by MAX leaders into delivered capability. This requires expert project and program management, business analysis, and communication skills, strong pharmaceutical market access acumen, and close partnership with Pfizer Solution Delivery and Operations colleagues and external implementation vendors. This analytic ecosystem underpins USMA’s market access strategy development and contract decision-making, informing billions of dollars in cost concessions across Pfizer’s portfolio.
As enterprise lead for curated payer coverage data (e.g., MMIT, Policy Reporter), this role drives clarity in use cases, business rules, and standards that guide data selection and use, ensuring a rigorous and well-documented approach to key data decisions, and driving alignment and accountability across suppliers and internal stakeholders. This work ensures that Pfizer maintains an accurate and consistent understanding of payer formulary/policy coverage of its products – intelligence that directly impacts market access strategies and flows to HCP marketing and field force deployment. As data liaison to the Commercial organization, this person represents our team with leaders of central and strategic data functions (e.g., within the Chief Marketing Office), shaping an intentional approach to extending the curated syndicated data assets that MAX manages (e.g., curated MMIT or IQVIA data assets) to broader use cases outside of USMA. This includes aligning the right data to the right business needs, establishing clear standards for appropriate use and validation, and enabling broader enterprise value while preserving the integrity of MAX’s critical data assets.
Overall, this role focuses on setting direction, aligning stakeholders and ensuring delivery of several ongoing projects. It requires advanced understanding of the US payer environment and experience with the analytic processes and data that drive market access decisions. By leading how curated data assets are applied, the role safeguards their quality, consistency, and appropriate use, and maximizes value from Pfizer’s investment in third-party data with clear standards and supplier accountability. It reduces duplicative data requests and conflicting interpretations, upholds licensing and compliance obligations, and ensures market access perspectives are reflected in enterprise data, analytics, and AI initiatives.
Role Responsibilities
Market Access Data & Application Platform Leadership
- Roadmap and delivery. Lead the business roadmap and the day-to-day management of workstreams for the ongoing management, enhancement, and adoption of the market access data hub and pre-/post-deal analytics (Contract Decision Support) platform, in direct partnership with Pfizer Solution Delivery and Operations.
- Prioritization and planning. Align with MAX leaders and key stakeholders on priorities and timelines, make informed trade-offs among effort, resources, and budget, and track timelines, dependencies, and value-driven milestones to support rapid deployment of high-value deliverables.
- Testing and data integrity. Lead business user acceptance testing (UAT) across release cycles and environments, and work with Pfizer Solution Delivery and Operations and the tool/dashboard and data-strategy leads to plan and execute data integrity and validation.
- Vendors and program budget. Direct the work of third-party implementation vendors and actuarial consultants, ensuring clarity on business priorities and accountability for agreed services, scope, and timelines; support statement-of-work and purchase-order planning and tracking and annual program budget planning and tracking.
- Communication, value, and resilience. Deliver stakeholder-specific updates and recommendations to senior leaders; measure the business value and impact of the capabilities and capture business-use insights for future enhancements; coordinate business training and onboarding; and maintain process documentation that keeps the capabilities repeatable and resilient to transitions.
- Emerging capabilities. Evaluate and pilot emerging analytic and AI capabilities, including generative-AI-assisted analytics and AI/ML approaches to accelerate pre-/post-deal modeling, in partnership with Pfizer Solution Delivery and Operations and consistent with Pfizer’s data-governance and responsible-AI standards.
Strategic Direction & Application of Curated Payer Coverag e Data
- Strategic direction. Translate USMA’s strategic priorities into clear direction for how curated payer coverage data (e.g., MMIT, Policy Reporter, and other third-party payer formulary/policy coverage sources) is sourced, interpreted, and applied; proactively anticipate emerging needs, data gaps, and supplier or market changes, and bring recommendations to MAX and USMA leadership.
- Cross-functional data forum. Build and sustain working relationships with the colleagues who use or support this data (market access marketing, payer account management, contracting and contract strategy, brand and commercial teams, analytics, and technical and operational partners) and establish and chair a standing cross-functional forum with a clear charter, decision rights, escalation path, and cadence to align priorities and resolve issues or competing needs.
- Enterprise use cases. Maintain an enterprise view of how curated payer coverage data is used across USMA, the brands, and other functions; assess new and changing use cases for fit with the data’s intended purpose, licensing terms, and existing sources, to reduce duplicative requests and conflicting interpretations.
- Business rules, definitions, and data quality. Establish, maintain, and communicate documented Pfizer business rules, definitions, and translations/overrides so the same data is applied consistently across tools, reports, and teams; set data-quality standards and oversee the cross-functional process for identifying, tracking, and resolving data discrepancies, in partnership with USMA Data Governance and other key stakeholders. Recommend resolutions when business needs conflict, and escalate unresolved conflicts to MAX leadership per the forum charter.
- Supplier partnership and accountability. Serve as the business’s primary voice with data suppliers: define performance expectations (data quality and accuracy, source documentation, transparency, timeliness, and service levels), lead the business side of supplier performance reviews and issue escalation, and contribute the business perspective to supplier selection, renewal, and enterprise commercial terms in partnership with internal customers (e.g., market access marketers, brand colleagues, USMA account management, Procurement, Legal, and Pfizer Solution Delivery and Operations).
- Governance, adoption, and education. Ensure alignment with Pfizer’s existing data-governance, compliance, privacy, and licensing requirements and keep standards current as suppliers, platforms, and business needs change; ensure users across USMA and the enterprise understand what data is available, how it should be used, and which rules apply, through clear guidance, training, and ongoing communication.
Data Liaison to Central & Strategic Commercial Data Function s
- Strategic partnership and enterprise alignment. Serve as the primary MAX business liaison to central and strategic data functions in the Commercial organization (e.g., data strategy and operations within the Chief Marketing Office, Global Commercial Analytics, and other analytics and AI organizations), and represent market access in enterprise data and solution initiatives (e.g., common data foundations, shared reference data, cross-functional analytics and AI use cases) so that market access needs, definitions, and constraints are reflected in enterprise designs.
- Enterprise data sharing. Work with these data functions and enterprise partners to determine how the curated syndicated data assets MAX manages can appropriately support broader US enterprise use cases, including the data, access, business rules, licensing terms, and protections required. Partner with USMA Data Governance to ensure restricted data, including contract utilization data, remains appropriately protected, and translate decisions into clear guidance and consistent processes.
- Intake and prioritization. Provide a clear, strategic point of intake for enterprise data requests and projects that depend on MAX’s curated data assets; coordinate with the cross-functional data forum so requests are evaluated consistently and sequenced against the platform roadmap. Partner with Solution Delivery and Operations colleagues to manage prioritization and delivery.
