About the job

Come join the GBSG Mid-Market Intelligence team as a Staff Software Engineer! Mid-Market is one of the fastest growing segments of the business, and the Intelligence team sits at the heart of our mission to build the industry's first truly AI-native ERP. You'll help build the intelligence layer that powers AI-native product experiences — where agents, automation, and seamless AI-to-human collaboration are designed in from the ground up, not bolted on.

As a Staff Engineer, you will tackle our most complex technical challenges, leveraging the state of the art in AI and agentic technology to deliver end-to-end solutions with a dedicated one-team mindset. You will serve as a technical leader who influences product and engineering strategy across teams, fundamentally changing how mid-market businesses run their operations.

Responsibilities

  • Solve ambiguous customer problems with robust and elegant AI-native technical solutions.
  • Leverage state-of-the-art AI and agentic technology — LLM orchestration, multi-agent systems, tool use, retrieval, and evaluation frameworks — to enable AI-native product experiences.
  • Lead the design and implementation of intelligent systems from concept to production: AI-native workflows that embed AI-driven automation with seamless AI-to-human collaboration (human-in-the-loop, approvals, explainability).
  • Build systems that proactively capture data signals, prevent issues before they occur, automate processes, and improve customer decision making.
  • Drive engineering excellence as the technical lead in peer reviews for estimates, designs, and code — including the evaluation, safety, and observability standards required for production AI systems.
  • Apply technical expertise to mentor engineers and solve complex programming challenges, including AI-assisted development practices.
  • Contribute directly to the overarching design and architecture of the Mid-Market intelligence platform.
  • Make data-backed decisions — drive the right level of instrumentation, offline evals, and online experimentation for AI-powered features.
  • Resolve defects across testing, pre-production, production, and post-release phases.
  • Partner with product management, design, and other business units to influence product and technical solutions across teams.
  • Utilize Agile and Scrum methodologies to ensure high-velocity, iterative delivery.
  • Champion a one-team mindset to deliver impactful customer results.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related area or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience architecting and developing high-scale distributed systems and web applications.
  • Strong, demonstrated background in applied AI — both traditional ML and Generative AI. Hands-on development and production rollout of agentic experiences is a huge plus.
  • Experience with modern AI/agentic building blocks: LLM APIs and orchestration frameworks, prompt and context engineering, RAG/retrieval, tool use and function calling, multi-agent architectures, and evaluation/guardrail frameworks.
  • 7+ years of experience with object-oriented languages; strong design and coding skills in Java and Python.
  • Strong background in data processing and data movement (e.g., Spark/PySpark, Kafka, feature/vector stores) to power AI-driven experiences.
  • Experience instrumenting, evaluating, and iterating on AI systems in production — offline evals, online experimentation, and quality/safety monitoring.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI-driven tools to accelerate development.
  • Proven experience with test automation including TDD and comprehensive integration testing.
  • Strong background in relational database design and large-scale data implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and act as a technical leader across teams.
  • Proven leadership in guiding technical discussions and driving cross-functional alignment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to act as the technical go-to person for all stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals and their practical application.
  • Proactive builder mindset with a focus on delivering high-impact, end-to-end solutions — energized by ambiguity and a space where the AI landscape evolves month to month.
