Preventative Maintenance Diesel Mechanic- Longview, WA Location: Longview, WA Company: Waste Control – A Waste Connections Company Schedule: Monday–Friday | 2:00pm – 10:30PM (With Overtime Often) Overtime: Frequently Available Pay Range: $27.12-$30.47 per hour (DOE) Safety Sensitive Position: Yes
Waste Control, a Waste Connections company, is seeking a dependable Preventative Maintenance Diesel Mechanic to support our fleet operations in Longview,WA. This role focuses on scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a diverse fleet of refuse trucks and equipment to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance. This is a stable, long‑term opportunity for mechanics looking to grow with an industry leader while working in a safety‑focused, team‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance services and mechanical repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems
- Utilize vehicle computer and diagnostic systems to identify failure modes and initiate repairs
- Conduct routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with company, DOT, and OSHA standards
- Review and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)
- Complete accurate documentation using fleet maintenance software , including parts usage and labor time
- Respond to service calls and emergency breakdowns as needed
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and drivers regarding required repairs and vehicle status
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Perform additional maintenance‑related tasks as assigned
- Welding experience preferred but not required
Qualifications
• 1+ year of experience in heavy truck or diesel equipment maintenance and repair
- 1+ year of experience in heavy truck or diesel equipment maintenance and repair
- CDL Class A or B is preferred , but not required at time of hire
- Ability to obtain CDL within 90 days (on‑the‑job CDL paid training available)
- Must supply personal mechanical tools and toolbox
- Shop‑provided onsite tools also available
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
- Ability to work safely, follow procedures, and communicate effectively
