API Test Engineer

Quality Assurance Engineer Location: Irving, TX (Onsite) | Contract Available for W2 only Overview Our client is seeking a API Test Engineer with strong experience in REST API testing, backend validation, and enterprise application integrations. The candidate will lead API testing activities while remaining hands-on with test execution, defect management, and quality assurance. This role requires close collaboration with development and business teams in an Agile environment. Responsibilities

Lead API testing activities, including test planning, test case development, execution, and defect management. Perform hands-on manual testing of REST APIs using Postman, Swagger, or similar tools. Validate API requests/responses, HTTP methods, status codes, authentication, and JSON/XML payloads. Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing. Execute SQL queries to validate backend data, database integrity, and system integrations. Identify, document, troubleshoot, and track defects through resolution. Lead defect triage and collaborate with developers to resolve issues. Work with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and ensure quality deliverables. Provide testing status, reports, and updates to stakeholders. Participate in Agile ceremonies and drive continuous improvements in QA processes.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 7–10 years of QA experience, with strong expertise in manual API testing. Experience leading API testing activities and mentoring QA team members. Strong hands-on experience with REST APIs, Postman, and Swagger. Excellent understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, authentication, and JSON/XML. Strong SQL skills and experience with backend/database validation. Experience with functional, integration, and regression testing. Familiarity with microservices and enterprise application integrations. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to API automation tools such as REST Assured. Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter. Familiarity with AWS, CI/CD, and log monitoring tools such as Splunk or CloudWatch.

Pay rate: $60-$65/hr (W2). This is a 1 year contract position, onsite in Irving, TX. Candidates must be US citizens or green card holders.
