About the job
Senior Staff Technical Program Manager, Global Security Office
MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. MongoDB Atlas and MongoDB’s broader data platform help organizations build, scale, and run modern applications across cloud providers and environments.
The Global Security Office protects MongoDB, our customers, and the trust that enables our business. The GSO works across security domains and business functions to improve our security posture, reduce risk, and help MongoDB deliver secure products and services at scale.
As a Senior Staff Technical Program Manager, you will be a senior individual contributor and program leader for the GSO. The role will have two primary focus areas:
- Directly lead and manage strategic programs which require senior level oversight due to high business impact and highly complex cross functional dependencies
- Establish the standard by which technical program managers across the team will execute and report program status, including building a community of progress among program managers who are distributed across reporting lines within GSO.
This role is designed for a technical program leader who can operate at the intersection of security, technology, risk, and business execution. The successful candidate will bring rigor without unnecessary process, create clarity from ambiguity, and build systems that help security teams and their partners execute predictably as MongoDB scales.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior program owner and trusted advisor for cross-functional security initiatives, partnering with executive sponsors and functional leads to establish accountability, sequencing, decision rights, and success measures.
- Establish a consistent operating system for GSO programs and operational work, including program definitions, roadmaps, milestones, risk and issue management, decision logs, and outcome tracking.
- Build integrated visibility into GSO priorities and progress, connecting team-level goals and workstreams to SMART goals and other company-level planning and review mechanisms.
- Bring knowledge of the security domain to complement program management rigor such that risks can be addressed faster.
- Drive convergence on project issues when teams disagree, resolve cross-functional deadlocks, and escalate only when decisions carry material, strategic, organizational, or enterprise risk.
- Identify systemic opportunities to improve execution, including automation, AI-enabled workflows, reusable mechanisms, and common measures that reduce manual effort and improve decision quality.
- Model MongoDB’s Leadership Commitment by communicating clearly, making trade-offs visible, maintaining high standards, and leading calmly and inclusively through change.
Requirements
- 10+ years driving large-scale, cross-functional technical programs across engineering, security, and product organizations, with a track record of delivering high-visibility outcomes in ambiguous environments.
- Deep technical fluency and credibility in modern tech and security domains—such as cloud/infrastructure security, IAM, product security, resilience, or enterprise architecture—with the ability to evaluate system-level dependencies and trade-offs.
- Proven ability to define multi-year roadmaps, operationalize quarterly goals, and balance pragmatic process with execution agility.
- Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale, cross-functional initiatives, program strategies and roadmaps with significant technical complexity, ambiguity, and executive visibility.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills with a demonstrated ability to build consensus, hold teams accountable, and drive alignment across competing priorities without formal authority.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication, skilled at producing both crisp executive narratives and detailed technical artifacts for engineering teams.
- Strong analytical data-oriented mindset focused on defining clear metrics, evaluating trade-offs with evidence, and staying composed when resolving high-stakes challenges.
- Experience with modern program and work-management tools, such as Jira, Confluence, Google Workspace, or comparable platforms.
Nice to Have
- Experience building or scaling a security program within a high-growth technology or SaaS company.
- Experience with secure SDLC, threat modeling, security assessments, vulnerability management, security incident readiness, audit or compliance programs, customer security commitments, or security automation.
- Experience partnering with Product Management and Engineering to connect security risk reduction, customer trust, delivery outcomes, and business priorities.
- Experience using automation, data platforms, scripting, or generative AI to improve program operations and decision quality.
- Experience mentoring TPMs or leading a TPM community of practice.
- Relevant technical, security, or program-management certification.
Success Measures
- Delivery of selected strategic GSO programs with clear outcomes, accountable owners, and predictable progress.
- Improved visibility into GSO portfolio health, including meaningful measures of progress, risk, dependencies, capacity, and outcomes.
- Faster and higher-quality decisions on complex security trade-offs, with clear escalation paths and durable decision records.
- Consistent adoption of scalable program-management mechanisms, operating rhythms, and reporting practices across GSO.
- Measurable reduction in execution friction, avoidable surprises, and manual coordination through process improvement, automation, and AI-enabled workflows.
- Stronger cross-functional alignment among GSO, Product & Technology, IT, and other partner organizations.
- Sustained improvements in security posture, operational resilience, customer trust, or other outcomes associated with the programs owned.
