The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to join our team. This position will support research in analytical spectroscopy, focusing on surface enhanced Raman scattering, such as characterizing the Raman signal enhancement of designed nanostructures to detect individual protein molecules. The Post Doctoral Scholar will pursue a program of research with the goal of determining the signal obtainable and the reproducibility of the signal. The Post Doctoral Scholar will conduct both independent and collaborative research in partnership with the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments; performing laboratory, field-based, or computational research; and analyzing and interpreting data using advanced techniques and tools. Research activities may involve spectroscopic measurements, modeling of plasmonic enhancement, method development, and statistical analysis of results depending on the specific research focus. The Post Doctoral Scholar may take a leading role in specific research projects or components, including surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), and contribute to the development of new research approaches and methodologies. The role includes preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, presenting findings at conferences and workshops, and contributing to dissemination of research results. Additional responsibilities include contributing to proposals for external funding, maintaining research tools or software systems (as applicable), collaborating with internal and external research partners, and supporting the broader research mission of the group. The Post Doctoral Scholar will also mentor undergraduate and graduate students, provide guidance on research techniques and best practices, and contribute to a collaborative and productive research environment. The role may involve participation in professional development activities, including workshops offered through the Office of Postdoctoral Studies.
