About the job
The Welding Certification Coordinator / Certified Welding Inspector & Instructor is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position responsible for coordinating and providing welding certification services for industry employees and students, providing welding instruction, and supporting the ongoing operation of the college's welding laboratories.
A primary responsibility of this position is providing welding certification services for incumbent industry employees who must maintain specific welding certifications to perform assigned work within their manufacturing facilities. The position will also provide certification opportunities for college welding students, including dual credit and dual enrolled students.
The successful candidate must hold an active Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential or be able to obtain the credential within a designated period as a condition of employment. This position is responsible for overseeing welding inspection and certification activities, coordinating qualification and testing processes, maintaining certification records and documentation, and ensuring compliance with applicable AWS requirements. The incumbent will maintain audit-ready records, certified materials, testing data, and supporting documentation necessary to support student, employee, and industry welding certification activities.
This is a year-round faculty position rather than an academic-year faculty position. The employee will work throughout the year, including semester breaks while the college is open, allowing for continuous welding certification services to regional industry partners when classes are not in session.
The position also carries a regular instructional responsibility of two welding courses each fall semester and two welding courses each spring semester. The teaching assignment is part of the employee's regular 40-hour workweek and will provide dedicated instructional capacity for welding cohorts, including Saturday offerings.
Work Schedule
This position requires a flexible work schedule designed to support instructional, industry certification, and welding laboratory needs.
During the fall and spring academic semesters:
- The position works 40 hours per week.
- The regular workweek will generally consist of four weekdays plus Saturday.
- Saturday work is required during the August-December and January-
May academic semesters.
- The position will teach two welding courses each fall semester and two welding courses each spring semester as part of the regular 40-hour workweek.
- Saturday instruction will be a regular component of the position's teaching responsibilities.
- The specific weekday schedule may be adjusted based on instructional, certification, laboratory, and operational needs.
During semester breaks and other periods when Saturday instruction is not scheduled, the employee's work schedule may transition to Monday through Friday. The employee will continue to provide industry certification services, laboratory support, equipment maintenance, material preparation, and other program support during these periods.
Applicants should understand that Saturday availability during the fall and spring semesters is a regular and ongoing requirement of this position, not an occasional assignment.
